Our History
The vision of Camp Camelot was created almost a decade ago by Lily Noon and Dr. Lorrie Eaton. Lily is a successful woman who owns one of the Bay Area's top 100 small businesses. Lorrie has been a licensed Chiropractor for 20+ years and has experienced great success practicing Neuro-Release Technique with clients with various disabilities, including Lily's daughter, Alexis. Together they envisioned the creation of a center for healing and education of people with special needs. A place where people can explore, grow, express and learn skills which will provide them with a better quality of life and a ray of hope for those who are challenged.
Our Philosophy:
We really believe that integration is key to development so we facilitate and integrate many therapies and approaches. We embrace the benefits of grouping people together who are similar to one another. This often relieves stress and aids in building confidence of the individuals and the group. However, we believe there is a growing need to facilitate interactions between individuals who are very different, which is more representative of life outside of educational environments. This is critical in teaching our youth the concept of community support and development. Therefore our learning programs include integration of:
- Families, teachers, caregivers or campers and any other key people of influence in their lives. Success needs to be driven, observed and celebrated through a collaborative effort.
- Children in special schools with children in public schools who do not have special needs.
- Elders and children.
- People with various impairments and disabilities.
Our Challenge:
Unfortunately, the cost for these various therapies often exceeds $400.00 per hour due to the involvement of multiple professional therapists. The average cost for traditional summer camps for children with special needs is approximately $1,000 per week and those camps do not offer most of the services Camp Camelot provides. The costs of these programs deny lower income families the opportunity to participate. While it is true that there are higher costs associated with running programs for special needs children, it is also true that there are not enough resources and financial support available to these families who are starving for answers and solutions. Our goal is to provide the same opportunities and quality of life for these special individuals at equal cost as children and families without special needs. We will do this through support of many dedicated volunteers, sponsors and fund raising activities. We include and invite ALL families and live our message "Yes, you can."
